AUTHORS, ARTISTS & OTHERS WHO PURSUE THEIR HAPPINESS

Friends and Family to Follow

Clare, like many of the people in our family, is highly gifted  with  an eye for beauty and especially the use  of color.

As a young adult she attended art school at Gordon College in Barnesville. “I got two years of art under my belt and aspired to go to SCAD to study sculpting.”

She did make it to Savannah and followed her dream but soon discovered the College of Art was just too expensive for a single girl working two jobs and no one to help or depend on.  “The art supplies were over $3000 per quarter back then,” she explained,” and I had to pack up my dreams and follow a wiser career path.”

Next Clare got a job in the apartment industry where she successfully worked her way up to management during the next ten years.

It was during this time that she became intrigued by stained glass.  She wanted to redo the bathroom window with some artsy stained glass.  A search for just the right piece was begun but quickly found to also be too expensive! So she decided to make one herself!

“I actually found a lady who ‘did’ stained glass and we bartered lessons for drift wood that I had collected. She instructed me for a few weeks to get me started and I also learned from watching YouTube.   From then on there was no stopping me!  It was a whole learning process of just doing it!”

Now, having worked in this glass media for about 10 years she’s become a magnificent artist herself.  Clare especially likes her Pink Flamingos  (seen above). Other favorites include Gingko Leaves and Geometrics  In  Driftwood.

Today Clare basically works by commission for family and friends but hopes you enjoyed reading about how she has expressed her talent through leaded glass art creations.
